Studio Update
After completing my first big hotel renovation while juggling multiple openings of multi-family projects all on my own, I knew it was time for a business parter. Last summer, my best friend and design lover Julia Berner-Tobin left her decade-long career in the publishing industry to join Hee Designs as partner and COO. Things have been crazy busy since then—in July, we finished our first gut renovation with our dream clients, a young family moving into their forever home on the Upper East Side. (Photos coming soon, and see below for a sneak peek at the mood boards!)
Project Highlight: Sunken Harbor Club
This may be our favorite pair of “before / after” photos across our recent projects: a shot of the wood-paneled lounge at the heart of Sunken Harbor Club. Part of the magic here is mixing new with very, very old. The original Bermudian cedar beams date back almost 300 years. The on-site team spent a LOT of man hours stripping white paint from those beams to expose them. The end result is a bar that takes you to another time and place: somewhere enchanting full of hidden nautical treasures.
